Weekly Learning Goals - Q1W4

What We're Learning This Week

Quarter 1 Week 4

*Note: Due to the holiday, and then hurricane, many activities could not be completed and will be repeated next week.*

READING

Our Goals

  • LAFS.2.RI.2.4  - Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 2 topic or subject area.
  • LAFS.2.SL.1.1 - Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
  • Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways, listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
  • Build on others’ talk in conversations by linking their comments to the remarks of others.
  • Ask for clarification and further explanation as needed about the topics and texts under discussion.
  • LAFS.2.RI.1.1 - Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
  • LAFS.2.RI.1.2 - Identify the main topic of a multiparagraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.
  • L.1.2a - Capitalize dates and names of people.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Our Goals

  • SS.A.1.2 - Utilize the media center, technology, or other informational sources to locate information that provides answers to questions about a historical topic.
  • SS.2.G.1.2 - Using maps and globes, locate the student's hometown, Florida, and North America, and locate the state capital and the national capital.
Activities
  • Review parts of the map (compass rose, symbols, cardinal directions and etc).
  • Discuss that Washington D.C. is not a state, but a territory.

  • MAFS.K12.MP.6.1 Attend to precision.
  • MAFS.2.MD.1.1 Measure the length of an object to the nearest inch, foot, centimeter, or meter by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.

SCIENCE

Our Goals

  • SC.2.N.1.1 - Raise questions about the natural world, investigate them in teams through free exploration and systematic observations, and generate appropriate explanations based on those explorations.
  • SC.2.N.1.3 - Ask "how do you know?" in appropriate situations and attempt reasonable answers when asked the same question by others.
  • SC.2.N.1.4 - Explain how particular scientific investigations should yield similar conclusions when repeated.
  • Form a hypothesis about any of the “I wonder” questions.
  • Investigate a problem alone or in teams using appropriate scientific tools.
  • Record observations made during an investigation that includes at least 5 trials.
  • Generate an explanation based on the results of an investigation.
  • Compare the results of each trial that has been conducted during an investigation.
  • Discuss why differences and similarities sometimes occur.
