Weekly Learning Goals: Q2W8

I hope everyone had a restful weekend! I know that I did! I managed to find a Christmas tree for our classroom, and boy, did the Padawans get excited when it "felt like Christmas" walking in the classroom this morning.

This week we are reading "Haiti is My Home" on Reading A-Z. Your child has been "assigned" the book so they can study reading it, its vocabulary, and comprehension skills at home as well. Some of the vocabulary words to focus on:
  • dreadful
  • destroyed
  • earthquake
  • neighborhood
  • sorrowful
  • thankful
Some good comprehension questions to work on at home will be find in the lesson plan below.

In writing we are continuing learning about opinion writing. We are working practice packets in school, but please feel free to practice discussion opinions at home. (When they have an opinion, they have to give at least 3 reasons to support their opinion.)

In social studies we are continuing working on our group projects. Each group is studying a different country and this week we're going to work on putting our information together to give our presentations on Friday! I am so excited to see what they have learned!

In math, we are continuing place value, but discussing greater than, less than, and equal to. Science we are discovering how things sink or float. Can you find items at home and discover what sinks and what floats?
