Padawan Parents,
We are moving onto our second week in money. The first week we focused a lot on a refresher in recognizing the name and value of the coins. While many Padawans did great with recognizing the value as well as counting change, I did see some struggles in coin equivalency. (i.e. Bob has 2 dimes. What four coins can he trade that equals 2 dimes?)
I am including some direct lessons to focus on iXL while at home (we will be working on the same lessons in school) but the children enjoy this program and it will only benefit them to work on it at home, too! =) Please make sure they login so it records and saves their practices and rewards! If you are unable to find their username and password, please shoot me a message on remind, dojo, or an email and I will happily send you their login information.
Please let them have paper and a pencil near by in case they need to draw out their work, as I would rather them take their time and work out the problem rather than guess. Also, please monitor them in the beginning until they show a better understanding. When they get an answer wrong, it will tell them the correct answer and WHY it is the correct answer. Most kids just see wrong and move on -- but reading the correction will give them a better understanding.
