  • Read: Kyle Keeps Track of Cash by Lisa Bullard (Epic!), Money Counts by Shirley Duke (Epic!)
  • Learn how to use money in real world problems (as opposed to just the value and name of coins).
  • Hands On Craftivity: Pocket Book Math – Counting Coins Pocket
  • Hands-On: How Much is Your Name Worth? 
  • Distribute Bill Cut Outs to each student.
  • Counting Dollars Powerpoint to show details of the bills. 
  • Susan’s Choice Notice & Wonder PPT.  Hand each student a problem label for their math notebook. Work out the problem as a class.

Science:


  • Pass out “The Sun’s Song: So Hot” Lyric Sheet.
  • Play: I’m So Hot (The Sun Song)
  • Introduction to the Sun’s Energy (Think Central: Unit 3: Inquiry Lesson-How does the sun heat earth)
  • Watch: Bill Nye the Science Guy – The Sun (Netflix).
  • Discuss the effects of the Sun’s Energy, introduce the terms direct (placing objects in the sun’s direct rays) and indirect (placing objects in containers that are not in the sun’s direct ray), create a list of obejcts discussing the effect of it being directly in the sun and indirectly in the sun (i.e. ice, chocolate, water, and etc.)
  • Science “Sun Facts” interactive notebook WS. The students can use their  science fusion workbooks to find answers.
  • Evaporation Interactive NB page. Have students cut and paste into notebook, and take water outside and poor onto the ground. Ask what they believe will happen to that water.
