Weekly Learning Goals - Q1W8

What We're Learning This Week

Quarter 1 Week 8

We're learning all about rocks & social in science, reviewing how to read a map in social studies/geography, and we're reading Beauty and the Beast in reading. We're also still learning all about irregular plural nouns!

READING

Our Goals
  • LAFS.2.RL.1.1 - Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
  • LAFS.2.SL.1.2 - Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media.
  • LAFS.2.L.3.5a - 
    • Demonstrate understanding of word relationships and nuances in word meanings.
    • Identify real-life connections between words and their use (e.g., describe foods that are spicy or juicy).
    • Distinguish shades of meaning among closely related verbs (e.g., toss, throw, hurl) and closely related adjectives (e.g., thin, slender, skinny, scrawny).
  • LAFS.2.L.3.4b - Determine the meaning of the new word formed when a known prefix is added to a known word (e.g., happy/unhappy, tell/retell).
  • LAFS.2.RL.1.2 - Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
  • LAFS.2.RL.2.5 - Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.
  • LAFS.2.RL.3.7 - Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.
  • LAFS.2.RL.1.3 - Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
  • Grammar: L.1.1c - Use singular and plural nouns with matching verbs in basic sentences (e.g., He hops; We hop).

      Our Goals

      • LAFS.2.W. 1.2 - Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.

      Activities
      • Review the main parts of a paragraph (hook, details, and conclusion)
      • Introduce text on Polar Bears.
      • Fill out graphic organizer.
      • Introduce Peer Review/Rubric.
      • Students work on rough draft and then begin peer reviews.
      • Teacher/Student conferences (student self evaluate using the rubric.)

      Our Goals
      • SS.A.1.2 - Utilize the media center, technology, or other informational sources to locate information that provides answers to questions about a historical topic.
      • SS.2.G.1.3 - Label on a map or globe the continents, oceans, Equator, Prime Meridian, North and South Pole.
